The idea behind introducing the 1.8km-long ropeway was to provide respite to tourists from long traffic snarls during peak seasons. The ropeway will bring down the journey time between Dharamshala and McLeodganj to 5 minutes. The project has been developed as a public-private partnership between Dharamshala Ropeway Limited and the tourism and civil aviation department of the Himachal Pradesh government.
